Mauro Pesoa Oficio ancestral entre un legado de arte, artesanía y tradición

Desde los recuerdos e inicios, en medio del humo de caña quemada y el olor a mimbre humedecido dentro del taller de su tío Pocho, es “Ahí es donde aprendí a hacer muñequitos con las varillas de mimbre y a reconocer distintos patrones en los tejidos que trazaba con los dedos hasta memorizarlas” nos da inició con su autografía.

La marca nace como un acto de encuentro personal. "Nací en Rosario y me crié en Formosa, entre oficios, paisajes y tradiciones que más tarde entendí que eran parte esencial de mi identidad". Después de un tiempo de búsqueda y silencios,"sentí la necesidad de volver a esas raíces para entender desde dónde quería crear". Recuperar el oficio familiar de la mimbrería, que heredé de mi madre y mi abuelo, fue clave. "Me dio no solo un lenguaje visual, sino también un propósito". Mauro Pesoa es el resultado de transformar sus recuerdos, su territorio e historia en un proyecto de diseño con identidad propia. "No nació como una empresa, sino como una necesidad de expresión, que con el tiempo se convirtió en una marca con mirada autoral, sustentable y profundamente argentina" nos dice.

The brand is born as an act of personal encounter. "I was born in Rosario and grew up in Formosa, among trades, landscapes, and traditions that I later understood were an essential part of my identity." After a period of searching and silences, "I felt the need to return to those roots to understand where I wanted to create from." Recovering the family craft of wickerwork, which I inherited from my mother and grandfather, was key. "It gave me not only a visual language but also a purpose." Mauro Pesoa is the result of transforming his memories, his territory, and his history into a design project with its own identity. "It didn’t start as a company, but as a need for expression, which over time became a brand with an authorial, sustainable, and deeply Argentine perspective," he tells us.

Si bien la marca nació en Formosa,"no nos pensamos solo como una marca de Formosa,

sino como un proyecto con identidad argentina, mirada latinoamericana y proyección

global". Diseñando para todas las personas que quieran consumir con conciencia, con raíz y

con verdad. Ahora bien, saber cómo es trabajar desde Formosa,"te puedo decir que acá la

naturaleza todavía marca el ritmo". Enseñando a diseñar desde el respeto: eligiendo

materiales nobles, locales y biodegradables como el mimbre (oficio familiar), el

algodón del Chaco, hojas de banano o de pindó. "Producimos de forma lenta, con

colecciones reducidas, reutilizando textiles y evitando todo tipo de desecho innecesario", nos dice. Además,"creemos que la sustentabilidad no es solo material: también está en cómo nos relacionamos, en cómo construimos comunidad. Nuestra propuesta es una moda más humana, consciente y conectada con el entorno".

Although the brand was born in Formosa, we did not conceive of ourselves only as a brand from Formosa, but as a project with Argentine identity, a Latin American perspective, and global projection. Designing for all people who want to consume consciously, with roots and with truth. Now, as for what it’s like to work from Formosa, I can tell you that the nature here still sets the pace. Teaching design from respect: choosing noble, local, and biodegradable materials like wicker (a family craft), the cotton of the Chaco, banana or pindó leaves. We produce slowly, with limited collections, reusing textiles and avoiding all kinds of unnecessary waste, they tell us. Moreover, we believe sustainability is not just material: it is also in how we relate to others, in how we build community. Our proposal is a more humane, conscious fashion that is connected to the environment.

Ahora, ¿Qué impacto buscan generar en la comunidad local (empleo,

capacitaciones, preservación de técnicas tradicionales)?

"Nuestro mayor compromiso es preservar y revalorizar el oficio ancestral de la mimbrería,

que forma parte de mi historia familiar y de la identidad cultural de muchas comunidades

del país" Hoy, en Argentina, quedan apenas unos pocos maestros mimbreros, y sentimos

una responsabilidad muy grande: que ese saber no desaparezca.

Buscamos generar un impacto real y duradero en nuestra comunidad, no solo ofreciendo

empleo digno, sino también compartiendo conocimientos. "Estamos trabajando en un libro

de técnicas de mimbrería, con la idea de que cualquier persona que quiera aprender, pueda

hacerlo. Queremos que la tradición no se pierda, que se transmita, que evolucione"

Now, what impact do you seek to generate in the local community (employment,

training, preservation of traditional techniques)?

"Our greatest commitment is to preserve and revalue the ancestral craft of wickerwork,

which is part of my family history and the cultural identity of many communities

in the country." Today, in Argentina, there are only a few master wickerworkers left, and we feel a very large responsibility: that that knowledge doesn´t disappear. We seek to generate a real and lasting impact in our community, not only by offering dignified employment, but also by sharing knowledge. "We are working on a book of wickerwork techniques, with the idea that anyone who wants to learn can do so. We want the tradition not to be lost, to be passed on, to evolve"

Our brand was born as a bridge between past and present: a space where craftsmanship, fashion and memory converse. "Each piece we make is a way of honoring those who came before, and at the same time, of opening the way for new generations of creators"

¿Cuáles son las técnicas de mimbre que trabajan y de dónde proviene la

inspiración para sus diseños?

Trabajamos principalmente con técnicas tradicionales de cestería en mimbre: tejido en

espiral, costura cruzada, entrelazado plano. "Son saberes que aprendí en casa, viendo a mi

mamá trabajar con paciencia y oficio. Es una herencia familiar que no solo respetamos, sino

que buscamos resignificar". Pero más allá de lo técnico, mi proceso creativo nace casi de manera natural, como un flujo constante que no se detiene. Mi cabeza siempre está bajando imágenes, sensaciones, recuerdos y movimientos. Lo que vivo, lo que siento, se transforma en arte y diseño. La inspiración aparece en lo cotidiano: en un paisaje del monte, en un gesto, en una historia popular, en un dolor, en una fe.

"Cada colección es un reflejo directo de ese momento de mi vida, un diálogo entre lo

personal y lo colectivo". Aunque cada propuesta es algo que comparto con el mundo,

siempre me guardo una parte para mí. "Una pieza íntima, una señal, una forma de honrar mi

historia dentro de lo que creo"

What wicker techniques do you work with and where does the inspiration for your designs come from?

We mainly work with traditional wicker basketry techniques: spiral weaving, cross-stitching, and flat interlacing. “These are skills I learned at home, watching my mother work with patience and craft. It’s a family inheritance that we not only respect but seek to re-signify.”

But beyond the technical, my creative process almost naturally arises like a constant flow that never stops. My mind is always bringing down images, sensations, memories, and movements. What I live and what I feel transforms into art and design. Inspiration appears in the everyday: in a countryside landscape, in a gesture, in a folk story, in a pain, in a faith.

“Each collection is a direct reflection of that moment in my life, a dialogue between the personal and the collective.” Although each proposal is something I share with the world, I always keep a part for myself. “An intimate piece, a sign, a way to honor my history within what I create.”

¿Qué papel juega Mauro Pesoa en el proceso de diseño y toma de

decisiones creativas?

"Estoy presente en todo. Desde la primera idea hasta la última puntada, cada decisión

creativa pasa por mis manos y por mi sensibilidad". Para mí, diseñar no es solo pensar en

prendas, es construir un universo. Por eso me involucro profundamente en cada etapa: la

elección de los materiales, los procesos, las morfologías, los símbolos y las narrativas.

No concibo este proyecto como algo separado de mí. "La marca y yo crecimos juntos, con

los mismos dolores, búsquedas , aprendizajes y tejidos que hago a mano". Por eso todo lo que creamos tiene una carga emocional fuerte, es honesto, es personal. Mi rol es el de quien siente, observa, transforma… y después deja que eso tome forma en una colección.

What role does Mauro Pesoa play in the design process and in creative decision-making?

"I am present in everything. From the first idea to the last stitch, every creative decision passes through my hands and my sensitivity." For me, designing isn't just thinking about garments; it's building a universe. That's why I get deeply involved in every stage: the choice of materials, the processes, the morphologies, the symbols, and the narratives. I don't conceive of this project as something separate from me. "The brand and I grew up together, with the same pains, searches, learnings, and pieces that I knit by hand." That's why everything we create carries a strong emotional weight; it's honest, it's personal. My role is that of someone who feels, observes, transforms… and then lets that take shape in a collection.

¿Qué materiales utilizan además del mimbre y cómo aseguran su

sostenibilidad?

Además del mimbre —que es nuestro eje y símbolo— trabajamos con materiales nobles y

biodegradables como el algodón chaqueño, lienzos recuperados, hojas de banano y de

pindó. Siempre buscamos que lo que usamos esté en sintonía con el entorno, que no genere residuos innecesarios y que tenga sentido dentro de nuestra narrativa. Usamos textiles recuperados, sobrantes de otras producciones y nos aliamos con talleres

que comparten nuestros valores. "Cada decisión, desde el material hasta el packaging, está

pensada para reducir el impacto ambiental y sumar valor cultural. Creemos que la sustentabilidad no es solo una tendencia: es una forma de ver el mundo, de

respetar los recursos, de honrar los oficios y de pensar en el futuro sin olvidarnos del

origen"

What materials do you use besides wicker and how do you ensure their sustainability?

Besides wicker —which is our core and symbol— we work with noble, biodegradable materials such as Chaqueño cotton, reclaimed canvases, and banana and pindó palm leaves. We always seek to use materials that are in tune with the environment, that do not generate unnecessary waste, and that make sense within our narrative. We use reclaimed textiles, leftovers from other productions, and we partner with workshops that share our values. "Every decision, from the material to the packaging, is designed to reduce environmental impact and add cultural value. We believe sustainability is not just a trend: it is a way of seeing the world, of respecting resources, of honoring crafts, and of thinking about the future without forgetting our origins."

¿Cómo nace una colección (concepto, prototipos, iteraciones)?

"Una colección nace como nace una emoción: de algo que estoy viviendo, pensando o

necesitando decir. No empiezo con una hoja en blanco, empiezo con una sensación. Puede

ser una imagen, una palabra, una memoria… y a partir de ahí, todo se empieza a construir

solo". Después viene la etapa de bajar eso a tierra: bocetos, búsqueda de materiales, pruebas, errores, piezas que aparecen casi solas y otras que llevan meses de trabajo. Hacemos muchas pruebas hasta que cada prenda encuentra su forma y su sentido. Siempre con el mismo objetivo: "que lo que contamos a través de la ropa sea real, que emocione y que conecte".

How is a collection born (concept, prototypes, iterations)?

"A collection is born like an emotion is born: from something that I am experiencing, thinking or needing to say. I don't start with a blank page, I start with a feeling. Can

be an image, a word, a memory... and from there, everything begins to be built

alone". Then comes the stage of bringing that down to earth: sketches, search for materials, tests, errors, pieces that appear almost alone and others that take months of work. We do many tests until each garment finds its form and meaning. Always with the same objective: "that what we see through clothing is real, that it excites and that it connects."

¿Cómo equilibran la artesanía tradicional con el diseño contemporáneo?

"No lo pienso como una división, sino como una conversación. La artesanía y el diseño

conviven en mi proceso de forma natural. No busco modernizar lo ancestral, sino dejar que

lo ancestral me enseñe nuevas formas de mirar lo contemporáneo". La clave está en el respeto: respeto por la técnica, por el tiempo que lleva una pieza hecha a mano, por la historia que hay detrás de cada saber. Pero también en el deseo de que eso siga

vivo, se mueva, dialogue con el presente.

How do you balance traditional craftsmanship with contemporary design?

"I don't think of it as a division, but as a conversation. Craftsmanship and design They coexist in my process naturally. I do not seek to modernize what is ancestral, but rather to let it the ancestral taught me new ways of looking at the contemporary." The key is in respect: respect for the technique, for the time that a handmade piece takes, for the history behind each piece of knowledge. But also in the desire for that to continue alive, move, dialogue with the present.

Mauro, la verdad un placer acercarme a la marca, descubrir y conocer más. ¿Deseás agregar algo más?

Gracias a vos por acercarte con tanta sensibilidad. Para mí, contar este camino también es

una forma de honrar a todas las personas que lo hacen posible: a quienes tejen, a quienes

creen, a quienes se emocionan con lo que hacemos.

"Quisiera agregar que esto no es solo moda. Es memoria, es historia, es una forma de

resistir, de sanar y de crear belleza desde lo que somos. Siento una responsabilidad enorme

por los oficios que nos preceden, por las voces que fueron silenciadas, por las manos que

sostienen todo esto desde hace generaciones".
