Kapura, una marca que honra lo artesanal, lo natural y lo atemporal. Bajo la mirada de Flor Baertl, un reflejo de memorias precolombinas.

Todo comienza con su fundadora, Flor Baertl, quien está detrás de la marca desde 2020, dándonos acceso al eco de sus raíces. Desde su origen, el legado de sus tradiciones y la mezcla de materiales que proceden de la región andina son fundamentales.

It all begins with its founder, Flor Baertl, who has been behind the brand since 2020, giving us access to the echo of its roots. Since its inception, the legacy of its traditions and the blend of materials from the Andean region have been fundamental.

Nacida de una profunda conexión con la naturaleza y con un legado familiar peruano, su inspiración surgió de unas vacaciones familiares en la Araucanía. Allí, la visita a una curtiembre y un talabartero encendieron la chispa creativa. Lo que comenzó como un proyecto personal se transformó en una marca que honra lo artesanal, lo natural y lo atemporal, convirtiéndose en un reflejo de su historia. “Mi papá es un amante de la historia precolombina y yo nací rodeada de esas piezas con tejidos ancestrales”, dice Flor.

Born from a deep connection with nature and a Peruvian family legacy, her inspiration arose from a family vacation in Araucanía. There, a visit to a tannery and a leatherworker ignited the creative spark. What began as a personal project transformed into a brand that honors craftsmanship, nature, and timelessness, becoming a reflection of her story. “My dad is a lover of pre-Columbian history, and I was born surrounded by those pieces with ancestral weavings”.

Valorando la autenticidad, la excelencia artesanal y la conexión con sus raíces, Kapura crea con propósito, utilizando materiales nobles de la región andina y fomentando una comunidad consciente, femenina y empoderada. “Cada prenda está hecha con dedicación, buscando trascender las modas pasajeras y convertirse en una pieza con historia. La perseverancia, el respeto por el entorno y la fidelidad a nuestra esencia guían cada decisión que tomamos”.

"Each garment is made with dedication, aiming to transcend fleeting trends and become a piece with history. Kapura lanzó su última colección, “Subterra”, que nace del contacto profundo con la naturaleza. “En uno de esos paseos por el bosque que tanto disfruto —cuando salgo a buscar tesoros y me dejo sorprender por lo que me rodea— me encontré con un paisaje cubierto de hongos. La luz filtrándose entre los árboles, el olor a humedad y las texturas y colores conviviendo en un mismo ecosistema”. Así nació Subterra, “una colección que habla de lo que ocurre bajo la superficie, de los procesos invisibles, del poder silencioso de lo que crece hacia adentro. Los colores—tierra, musgo, piedra, óxido—reflejan ese mundo subterráneo. Las texturas evocan lo orgánico, lo vivo, lo que se transforma sin prisa. Es una colección que invita a mirar más allá, a volver al origen, a reconectar con lo esencial”.

Kapura launched its latest collection, “Subterra,” which is born from a deep connection with nature. “On one of those walks in the forest that I enjoy so much—when I go out to search for treasures and allow myself to be surprised by my surroundings—I came across a landscape covered in mushrooms. The light filtering through the trees, the smell of dampness, and the textures and colors coexisting in the same ecosystem.” Thus, Subterra was born, “a collection that speaks of what happens below the surface, of invisible processes, of the silent power of what grows inward. The colors—earth, moss, stone, rust—reflect that underground world. The textures evoke the organic, the living, that which transforms without haste. It is a collection that invites one to look beyond, to return to the origin, to reconnect with the essential.”

A través de cada colección, se establece un lenguaje emocional que conecta, que es lo fundamental. “No me hace sentido hablar solo de ropa. Creo que mi formación como psicóloga siempre me lleva hacia un más allá: a explorar lo que hay detrás, lo que sentimos, lo que nos mueve”, nos dice. Pero, ¿Qué filosofía o visión mantiene la mujer Kapura? Para Flor, la mujer es consciente, curiosa y profundamente conectada con su intuición. Valora lo auténtico, lo bien hecho y lo que tiene historia. No se deja llevar por lo superficial ni por las modas pasajeras; elige desde un lugar interno, con intención y sensibilidad. Es una mujer que honra sus raíces, pero que también se atreve a explorar nuevos territorios. Entiende que vestirse es una forma de expresarse, de habitar su cuerpo con presencia y confianza. “Es una buscadora: de belleza, de sentido y de experiencias que la transformen”, afirma.

Through each collection, an emotional language is established that connects, which is fundamental. “It doesn’t make sense for me to talk only about clothing. I believe my background as a psychologist always leads me to explore what lies behind, what we feel, what moves us,” she tells us. But what philosophy or vision does the woman of Kapura uphold? The woman is conscious, curious, and deeply connected to her intuition. She values authenticity, quality, and things with a history. She is not swayed by superficiality or fleeting trends; she chooses from an internal place, with intention and sensitivity. She is a woman who honors her roots but also dares to explore new territories. She understands that dressing is a form of self-expression, of inhabiting her body with presence and confidence. “She is a seeker: of beauty, meaning, and experiences that transform her”.

Por otro lado, la selección de materiales se basa en el cuidado y el respeto. Trabajando principalmente con fibras nobles de la región andina, como la alpaca y otras lanas naturales, la prioridad es la calidad, la trazabilidad y el impacto que generan, seleccionando cada material no solo por su belleza o suavidad. “Sino por su capacidad de durar en el tiempo, de envejecer con dignidad y de contar una historia. Nos interesa preservar técnicas ancestrales propias de la región andina, valorando el conocimiento de quienes trabajan el oficio textil desde generaciones. Para nosotros, los materiales son el inicio de un relato que honra lo natural, lo humano y lo auténtico”, dice Flor sobre el universo Kapura, alejándose del concepto de seguir las tendencias y creando desde un lugar íntimo, inspirado por la naturaleza, la historia y lo ancestral, que se mueve con lo artesanal, lo atemporal y lo hecho con sentido. “Lo que nos diferencia es la profundidad con la que pensamos en cada prenda: desde la elección de materiales, los procesos de producción, el diseño, hasta la manera en que se comunica”.

The selection of materials is based on care and respect. Working primarily with noble fibers from the Andean region, such as alpaca and other natural wools, the priority is quality, traceability, and the impact they generate, selecting each material not only for its beauty or softness. “But for its ability to last over time, to age with dignity, and to tell a story. We are interested in preserving ancestral techniques unique to the Andean region, valuing the knowledge of those who have worked in the textile trade for generations. For us, materials are the beginning of a narrative that honors the natural, the human, and the authentic,” she say about the Kapura universe, moving away from the concept of following trends and creating from an intimate place, inspired by nature, history, and the ancestral, which embodies the artisanal, the timeless, and the meaningful. “What sets us apart is the depth with which we think about each garment: from the choice of materials, the production processes, the design, to the way it is communicated.”

Hay algo emocional que atraviesa sus diseños, creando un universo de identidad propia, donde cada colección, cada textura y cada gesto tiene una intención y un relato. “Eso es lo que conecta con nuestra comunidad: un lenguaje compartido que trasciende lo visual y se convierte en experiencia”.

No podríamos dejar de hablar sobre cómo la sostenibilidad es una forma de habitar el mundo con respeto, ya que la producción es de baja escala, lo que permite cuidar cada etapa del proceso y evitar el desperdicio. Las materias primas naturales y duraderas dan prioridad a aquellas de origen local y con trazabilidad. “Diseñamos con intención: cada prenda está pensada para tener una larga vida útil, para ser cuidada, reparada e incluso heredada”, reafirmando la visión y orientación de la marca.

There is something emotional that runs through their designs, creating a universe of its own identity, where each collection, each texture, and each gesture has an intention and a story. “That’s what connects with our community: a shared language that transcends the visual and becomes an experience.” We cannot overlook how sustainability is a way of inhabiting the world with respect, as production is on a small scale, allowing for care at every stage of the process and reducing waste. Natural and durable raw materials prioritize those that are locally sourced and traceable. “We design with intention: each garment is meant to have a long useful life, to be cared for, repaired, and even inherited,” reaffirming the brand's vision and direction.

Por otro lado, ¿Cómo apoya Kapura a las comunidades locales o a pequeños productores? La marca está activa con talleres de artesanos y pequeños productores de la región andina; vínculos que son esenciales para compartir valores, saberes y una visión común del oficio como una forma de expresión y resistencia cultural. “Buscamos revalorizar técnicas tradicionales que han pasado de generación en generación”, nos dice.

Con una mirada hacia el futuro, Kapura busca seguir creciendo de manera orgánica, fiel a su esencia, consolidando colecciones cápsula y fortaleciendo su comunidad, además de expandir su presencia a nuevos territorios. “Nos encantaría llegar a más personas alrededor del mundo que conecten con nuestros valores: lo artesanal, lo atemporal, lo hecho con respeto y conciencia. Sabemos que hay una sensibilidad compartida más allá de las fronteras y queremos encontrarnos con quienes vibran en esa misma frecuencia”. También nos habla de las colaboraciones con artistas, artesanos y diseñadores que las inspiran, y que continúan profundizando prácticas sostenibles —no solo en lo productivo, sino también en lo humano y comunitario.

On the other hand, how does Kapura support local communities or small producers? The brand is active with workshops for artisans and small producers from the Andean region; connections that are essential for sharing values, knowledge, and a common vision of the craft as a form of expression and cultural resistance. "We aim to revalue traditional techniques that have been passed down from generation to generation," they tell us.

With an eye towards the future, Kapura seeks to continue growing organically, true to its essence, consolidating capsule collections and strengthening its community, in addition to expanding its presence into new territories. "We would love to reach more people around the world who connect with our values: the artisanal, the timeless, and that which is made with respect and awareness. We know there is a shared sensitivity beyond borders, and we want to meet those who resonate on that same frequency." They also talk about collaborations with artists, artisans, and designers who inspire them, and who continue to deepen sustainable practices—not only in production but also in human and community aspects.

Si bien la marca no sigue las tendencias, sí observa los cambios culturales y las nuevas formas de habitar el vestir, adaptándose a lo auténtico sin perder la identidad. “Creemos que el futuro está en el diseño con propósito, en la producción responsable y en construir vínculos reales con las personas. Más que adaptarnos al mercado, buscamos resonar con quienes comparten nuestra visión: una forma más consciente, honesta y profunda de crear, elegir y vivir la moda”.

Como meta a corto plazo, la próxima experiencia para la marca es sembrar una semilla fuera del mercado chileno. “Queremos que Kapura cruce fronteras y que más personas alrededor del mundo conecten con nuestros valores: lo artesanal, lo atemporal, lo hecho con respeto y conciencia. Nos mueve la idea de expandirnos de forma orgánica, encontrando espacios y comunidades afines que valoren lo que hacemos desde un lugar genuino. También buscamos seguir fortaleciendo nuestra comunidad actual, ofreciendo una experiencia cada vez más cercana y significativa a quienes ya nos acompañan”, concluye.

While the brand does not follow trends, it does observe cultural changes and new ways of dressing, adapting to authenticity without losing its identity. "We believe that the future lies in purpose-driven design, responsible production, and building real connections with people. More than just adapting to the market, we seek to resonate with those who share our vision: a more conscious, honest, and profound way of creating, choosing, and living fashion."

As a short-term goal, the next experience for the brand is to plant a seed beyond the Chilean market. "We want Kapura to transcend borders and for more people around the world to connect with our values: the artisanal, the timeless, what is made with respect and awareness. We are driven by the idea of expanding organically, finding spaces and communities that value what we do from a genuine place. We also aim to continue strengthening our current community, offering an experience that is increasingly closer and more meaningful to those who already accompany us".
