Y así fue como surgiría este referente del estilo clásico y atemporal. Estamos frente a una de las mujeres más icónicas del siglo XX, llamada Grabielle Bonheur Chanel, nació el 19 de Agosto de 1883 en Saumur, Francia, a la que nombraron Coco.

And that was how this reference of classic and timeless style would emerge. We are facing one of the most iconic women of the 20th century, named Gabrielle Bonheur Chanel, born on August 19, 1883, in Saumur, France, who was called Coco.

En su época, las mujeres no eran en absoluto como ella; Coco marcó el comienzo de la Androginia, y de sus experiencias, "creó un nuevo look y un nuevo estilo de vida”, sentencia Anne Fontaine, la directora del primer biopic cinematográfico sobre la gran dama de la moda francesa. Y es que Coco Chanel, y su forma de entender la moda a través de su marca homónima, marcó un punto de inflexión para la sociedad y, sobre todo, una auténtica liberación para la mujer.

In her time, women were not at all like her; Coco marked the beginning of Androgyny, and from her experiences she "created a new look and a new lifestyle," says Anne Fontaine, the director of the first cinematic biopic about the great lady of French fashion. Como un ave fénix, que revive una y otra vez...  Es un hecho, homenajear por su originalidad a la legendaria diseñadora de modas, que con su inconfundible estilo atemporal, única con sus sombreros canotiers la hacían una it girl del momento. Una mujer que despertó la inspiración aun sin fin de fotógrafos, productores, hasta cineastas, que tuvo de inspiración a esta proverbial e impulsora del estilo andrógino. Coco nunca hubiera podido ser imitada en los años 20, porque sólo canalizaba su personalidad sombría a través de las espectaculares elecciones que elegía cada día para vestirse. Innovaciones que despojarían totalmente a la mujer del corsé, era tedioso para Coco creer que las mujeres, estarían tan cómodas dentro de ese armazón que no las dejaba ni respirar. Si había algo que además le molestaba, era ver a las damas de esa época, revestidas con esos enormes sombreros, que ocultaban la belleza de lo simple, lo depurado… sus atuendos son legados que ella nos dejo. Empezando por los vestidos de punto, los jerséis o las chaquetas. A ella le debemos la pasión por el negro, el tweed, la popularización de las perlas y otro buen puñado de hitos.

Coco could never have been imitated in the 1920s, because she only channeled her sombre personality through the spectacular choices she made each day for how to dress. Innovations that would completely strip women of the corset — it was tedious for Coco to believe that women would be comfortable inside that framework that wouldn't even let them breathe. If there was something that bothered her even more, it was seeing the ladies of that era adorned with those enormous hats that hid the beauty of the simple, the refined… her outfits are legacies she left us. Starting with knitted dresses, jumpers, and jackets. We owe her the passion for black, for tweed, the popularization of pearls, and many other milestones.

Para desarrollarlo, combinó con total libertad elementos de la moda masculina y femenina, utilizando texturas, formas y prendas que estaban reservadas para los hombres; adaptó la ropa deportiva al lenguaje de la moda de todos los días y rechazó la arrogancia de la ostentación, enseñando a combinar lo autentico con lo falso. A pesar que nunca se definió como feminista, sin duda su trabajo contribuyó a la emancipación de la mujer. Una visionaria de la moda. Se convirtió en mecenas del arte vanguardista. La moda que legó al mundo posee una sensualidad atemporal y un purismo despojado de dogmas. Independiente, segura de sí misma y seductora, Coco Chanel será para siempre la personificación del estilo del siglo XX.
