Entender el textil no como residuo, sino como segunda piel, es el punto de partida con el que Juliana Garcia Bello transforma manteles cotidianos, camisas y afectos del sur en una declaración de diseño consciente.

Understanding textiles not as waste, but as a second skin, is the starting point from which Juliana Garcia Bello transforms everyday table linens, shirts, and memories of the south into a statement of conscious design.

“A shirt, a dress, and a coat cease to be simple garments to embody the child, the mother, the grandmother, or the sister: a visual narrative of shelter and everyday coexistence.”

Juliana Garcia Bello posee esa lucidez creativa reservada a quienes comprenden que la moda contemporánea ya no puede limitarse a la producción de siluetas efímeras. Su labor investiga los límites de la materia, transformando la memoria cotidiana en una herramienta estética y proyectual. En su universo, la sustentabilidad no se experimenta como una simple directriz técnica, sino como un compromiso ético y un ritual de afecto. Para la temporada Primavera – Verano 27, la firma radicada conceptualmente en el sur argentino presenta "Habitar la prenda", una entrega que desafía las lógicas del descarte para reflexionar sobre el paso del tiempo, el cuerpo y los lazos que nos unen.

Juliana Garcia Bello possesses that creative lucidity reserved for those who understand that contemporary fashion can no longer be limited to the production of fleeting silhouettes. Her work investigates the limits of materiality, transforming everyday memory into an aesthetic and design tool. In her universe, sustainability is not experienced as a mere technical guideline, but as an ethical commitment and a ritual of affection. For the Spring–Summer 27 season, the brand, conceptually rooted in the Argentine south, presents 'Habitar la prenda', a collection that challenges the logic of waste to reflect on the passage of time, the body, and the bonds that unite us.

La propuesta nace de una certeza: la ropa nunca es únicamente tela; es un receptáculo de historias, una segunda piel que ha sido cuidada, vestida y resignificada a lo largo de los años. En lugar de adquirir nuevos rollos de tela impersonal, Garcia Bello construyó la colección a partir de donaciones recolectadas durante los últimos años entre vecinos y allegados de Tierra del Fuego.

The proposal stems from a certainty: clothing is never solely fabric; it is a repository of stories, a second skin that has been cared for, worn, and given new meaning through the years. Instead of sourcing new bolts of impersonal cloth, Garcia Bello built the collection from donations gathered over recent years among neighbors and friends across Tierra del Fuego, Argentina.

En esa cartografía íntima conviven camisas a cuadros y rayas gastadas por el trajín diario, manteles que alguna vez vistieron mesas familiares, bordados artesanales y minuciosas labores a crochet hechas a mano. Cada uno de estos fragmentos rescata el calor doméstico, la intimidad del hogar y la cadencia pausada del sur para devolverlos al circuito de la moda con una vigencia renovada.

A través de la técnica del upcycling y un riguroso patronaje zero waste, la diseñadora propone una arquitectura textil limpia y consciente. Los patrones están pensados minuciosamente para reconstruir sin destruir: se ejecutan con la menor cantidad de cortes posibles, permitiendo que las formas originales de las piezas dialoguen entre sí y se integren armónicamente en un nuevo todo orgánico. 

Este ejercicio de superposición de capas genera una genealogía visual donde las prendas adquieren un valor casi familiar. Una camisa, un vestido y un tapado dejan de operar como prendas aisladas para evocar las presencias de la niña, la madre, la abuela o la hermana. Es un acto de convivencia donde el textil se desanuda no para perderse, sino para alcanzar al otro y ofrecerle abrigo.

Within that intimate cartography coexist checkered and striped shirts softened by daily wear, tablecloths that once graced family tables, artisanal embroidery, and meticulous handcrafted crochet details. Each of these fragments recovers domestic warmth, household intimacy, and the unhurried cadence of the south, returning them to the fashion circuit with renewed vitality.  

Through upcycling techniques and rigorous zero-waste pattern-making, the designer proposes a clean and conscious textile architecture. The patterns are thoughtfully conceived to rebuild without destroying: they are executed with the fewest cuts possible, allowing the original shapes of the garments to converse with one another and integrate seamlessly into a new organic whole.  

This layering exercise generates a visual genealogy where garments take on an almost familial presence. A shirt, a dress, and a coat cease to function as isolated pieces, instead evoking the presence of the young girl, the mother, the grandmother, or the sister. It is an act of coexistence where the fabric unties itself not to get lost, but to reach toward the other and offer shelter.

Lejos de quedar confinada a un laboratorio experimental, la narrativa de “Habitar la prenda” se proyecta hacia los grandes espacios de exhibición. Durante el mes de Septiembre, la colección se presentará en el Museo de Arte Moderno de Buenos Aires (Museo Moderno), consolidando el cruce entre indumentaria, arte contemporáneo y patrimonio afectivo. Poco después, en Octubre, llevará esta perspectiva circular a la Feria Puro Diseño y Redress Design Award en Hong Kong

Con esta colección, GARCÍA BELLO confirma que la vanguardia textil no reside en la novedad constante, sino en la capacidad de mirar hacia atrás, recoger lo habitado y convertir la memoria en porvenir.

Far from remaining confined to an experimental laboratory, the narrative of 'Habitar la prenda' reaches toward major exhibition spaces. During the month of September, the collection will be showcased at the Museum of Modern Art of Buenos Aires (Museo Moderno), consolidating the intersection of clothing, contemporary art, and affective heritage. Shortly after, in October, it will bring this circular perspective to Feria Puro Diseño y   Redress Design Award en Hong Kong.

With this collection, GARCÍA BELLO confirms that the textile avant-garde does not lie in relentless novelty, but in the ability to look back, gather what has been inhabited, and turn memory into the future.
